You are invited to this one-day workshop “How to Study the Bible” on Saturday, January 28, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg. This workshop is FREE and lunch will be provided. The workshop will be held in the Upper Room.

Join us for this fun event that will help anyone who wants to learn how to read the Bible for understanding and transformation. All are invited and encouraged to attend!

Chicken & Noodle Fundraiser – Jan. 29

The Youth Group will be hosting a homemade chicken and noodle fundraiser dinner at the Annual Meeting in the Leffler Life Center on Sunday, January 29 immediately following worship. A free-will offering will be collected.

This Spring, our middle school and high school youth will be taking a trip to Tulsa to participate in Acquire the Fire Youth Rally! This is sure to be a great event for our youth to grow as young Christians!

Please come support our Youth Group and help them get to Tulsa on March 16 and 17!

“Prayer: Beyond Guilt to Freedom” begins Jan. 11

Starting Wednesday, January 11, Pastor K.O. will be leading a 5-week study on “Prayer: Beyond Guilt to Freedom” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. upstairs in the Golden Rule Room. Community Christmas Dinner Wrap-Up

To you my sisters and brothers who call the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg your church home, greetings.

The 2011 Community Christmas Day Dinner was a blast. All told, we served about 650 meals, not counting seconds. There is much to celebrate about this event. Our key leaders worked very well to coordinate their teams and get their work done well. Frank Butorac oversaw the kitchen and equipment setup. Carolyn Robison and her team attended to decoration and volunteer coordination. Sammie Brueggemann worked on promotion while Diana Kerle offered important insights and experience during the planning stage. Terry Cox and Elma Hurt supervised the desserts alcove. Bill and Lori Atkinson managed the Take Out and Pick lines. This year, we added one more component. Anna Noonoo worked with a group of volunteers to serve as hosts for our guests.

Once again, many churches and agencies in our community were kind enough to partner with us in this effort. While our congregation provided the ham and potatoes, others chipped in with some desserts, salads, drivers to deliver meals, greeters, cleaning up as well financial donations. Many of you found a way to participate in this ministry. I thank you for doing so. As I stood at the Pine Street entrance of our building to bid farewell to our guest, so many of them were appreciative of the gift you gave them. Shaking my hand vigorously, one of our guests observed, “We have wished for a long time that someone would do this. Thank you”. Another guest from Parsons who had come into town to spend some time with her aging mother was greatly relieved to know she could come and pick up two fine meals for the two of them. She neither had to cook nor worry about where to go and eat. I’m told not very many restaurants in Pittsburg are open on Christmas Day. Meals on Wheels also takes Christmas day off. So you see this meal is a real ministry for many in our community. Thank you for being part of it.

God willing, next year, same time, same place! Happy New Year to you all.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service – Dec. 24

You, your family and friends are invited to a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at The Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg on Saturday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

There will be a message, Christmas music, including singing along to Christmas carols, and the lighting of candles.

Please join us for this special worship service that celebrates the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

You are invited to the Community Christmas Day Dinner on December 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 6th & Pine Street, Pittsburg, Kansas.

Dine-in, carry-out and home delivery are available. To place an order for home delivery please call 231-2920 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. now until Dec. 23.

The entire community is invited to this dinner regardless of economic status. Please pass this invitation along to your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. No one needs to be alone on Christmas!

A Spiritual Journey Through Advent begins Nov. 30

Would you like to pause on the road to Bethlehem and take a Spiritual journey through Advent? Do you long to slow down and thoughtfully and prayerfully ponder the good news of Emmanual, “God with us”?

Consider joining us on Wednesday nights through Advent, beginnnig Nov. 30, as Pastor K.O. leads a class called “Pausing on the Road to Bethlehem: A Spiritual Journey Through Advent.” The class will gather from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the Upper Room. All are welcome to attend! Please join us!

It’s time for a new church pictorial directory! Lifetouch will be creating our new directory. We need everyone to schedule an appointment to have their picture taken. Pictures will be taken on Jaunary 18, 19, and 20 from 2 to 9 p.m. and January 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
