Deacons Ministries

It is the duty of Deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.

These are the ministries and services offered by our Deacons:

Presbyterian Prayer Partners
Established by the Board of Deacons, the Presbyterian Prayer Partners is a weekly prayer request list that is inserted in each Sunday’s bulletin. On this list are prayer requests that have been submitted to the church office. Each person that receives this list is encouraged to pray for the needs and concerns of each person on it.

Sunshine List
Each member of the Board of Deacons volunteers to visit nursing home residents, shut-ins, and those members unable to attend church, who are on the Sunshine List. The Deacons visit each person they have volunteered for to offer a friendly smile and a bit of “sunshine” once a month or as needed. Bud vases of flowers made from the sanctuary flowers are also delivered to members on the Sunshine List.

Tape Ministry
Weekly sermons are reproduced on tapes, to be delivered by the Deacons to those shut-ins who request them. Tapes may be requested by calling the church office.

Transportation
Upon request, the Board of Deacons will make arrangements for transportation to Sunday school and church for members who are unable to drive themselves. Deacons also provides transportation for special medical needs.

Sunshine Grocery Delivery
A grocery delivery service is offered by the Deacons for shut-ins or members who are unable to get their own groceries. Contact the church office for details.

Care Notes
The Deacons maintain supplies of Care Notes in the racks located in the Parlor. These pamphlets are free to anyone who wishes to have one.

Presbyterian Health Care Ministry
The Board of Deacons in conjunction with the Health Care Ministry Committee sponsors projects which encourage members of the congregation to take proper care of their minds, bodies and spirits. Examples of this are the monthly blood pressure screenings and wellness tips printed in the church bulletin. The Deacons also offer a medical equipment lending program.

Other Ministries
Deacons offer several other services such as Emergency Help, Holiday Recognition, Baby and Health Care and Birth Recognition. In addition, they help with the Memorial Books. Deacons also dispense funds for special needs through the Virginia F. Miller Memorial Fund.

Deacon’s Offering
Deacons collect a special offering the first Sunday of each month. Offering envelopes are enclosed in the Worship Bulletin. The offering goes to fund programs offered by our Deacons.

If you or someone you know needs assistance and would benefit from a service offered by our Deacons, please contact the church office at 231-2920.
