Dr. Walter McCray
Dr. Walter McCray became director of music at the First Presbyterian Church in 1914 and continued until 1954. In 1915 he was instrumental in helping the church to secure a pipe organ through provisions of the Carnegie Fund which paid for one-half of the $3500 total cost. The church used that instrument until 1969 when the present Reuter Organ was installed.

Dr. McCray was the second director of the Department of Music at State Manual Training Normal School (Pittsburg State University) and served in that capacity from September 1914 to August 1946. He died on December 5, 1959. The Music Department’s McCray Hall on the PSU campus is named after Dr. McCray. …click for more…
